This Privacy Policy explains how Farexis ("Farexis", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you visit farexis.com (the "Site"), subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us. We are an independent travel publication based in Chicago, Illinois. By using the Site you acknowledge the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways. First, information you provide directly: when you subscribe to our newsletter or send a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address and the contents of your message. Second, information collected automatically: our hosting and security infrastructure may log technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages you view and timestamps. Third, information from cookies and similar technologies, as described in our Cookie Policy.
We do not ask for or intentionally collect sensitive personal information through the Site, and we do not process payment-card data because we do not sell products or take payments here.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to send the newsletter you requested; to respond to your enquiries and corrections; to operate, secure and improve the Site; to understand in aggregate which articles readers find useful; to detect and prevent fraud, abuse and technical problems; and to comply with our legal obligations. We do not use your information for automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
3. Legal bases for processing (EEA and UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases: your consent (for example, when you subscribe or accept non-essential cookies); our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving an independent publication, balanced against your rights; and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time, including by unsubscribing, without affecting prior processing.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who act on our behalf, such as our website host, security and content-delivery providers, email-newsletter platform and analytics provider, under agreements that limit their use of the data; when required by law, regulation or legal process; and to protect the rights, property or safety of Farexis, our readers or others. If the publication is ever transferred to new ownership, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
5. Advertising and affiliate links
Farexis displays advertising and includes affiliate links, as explained on our How We Work page. Advertising partners and the destination sites of affiliate links may set their own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies once you interact with their ads or follow their links. We do not control those third-party practices and encourage you to review their policies.
6. Data retention
We keep newsletter data for as long as you remain subscribed, and contact-form data for a limited period after our correspondence, then delete or anonymize it, unless a longer period is required by law. You can unsubscribe or request deletion at any time.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to request its deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. 8. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request its deletion; to correct inaccurate information; and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. 9. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information, and the Site is served over encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's privacy
The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
We are based in the United States, and your information may be processed here or in other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
